Adult Beginning Drawing Class


Learn how to focus on shape and values using simple still life elements. Participants will work in charcoal and graphite. Supplies not all included; participant must purchase on own at any craft store the following: 18x24 newsprint pad, kneaded eraser, white eraser, HB pencil, 4B pencil, pencil sharpener, & art tape.

Who’s in control—You or your money?


This seminar will guide you to better control your money, plan for your future, and gain financial control. Topics covered during this seminar will include credit report overviews, where to get a free copy of your credit report, how credit scores affect your financial portfolio, budgeting practices, and lending terms used in the market. Open discussions and questions are encouraged.

Sign Language


Please join Easter Seals Interpreting Services (ESIS) for six weeks of fun and learning. Classes are open to anyone interested in learning American Sign Language (ASL) and will cover the alphabet, basic signs, and simple conversation.

Scrapbooking


Love the idea of a homemade gift, but have limited time? This class is for you! All you need to bring is 15 to 20 photos from a favorite event or photos of a special person(s) along with your own photo adhesive tape (or can be purchased at class) and you are ready to go. This class provides all the tools and the album kit for you to make a beautifully personalized mini scrapbook. Never scrapbooked before? This is the perfect place to try it out! Creative Memories Consultant Denise Bostdorf will guide you as you organize and create your album. She will also have many different cutting tools and shape makers for the class to share while making your album. Experienced scrappers can bring their own tools if they like. Makes an excellent gift for Birthdays/Mother’s/Father’s/Grandparents Day, Valentines, Easter Baskets or just because!

American Red Cross Babysitter's Training 


The American Red Cross is offering an ideal course for youth and teens who want to become babysitters. This five-hour course will be taught by a certified American Red Cross instructor and designed to train youth and teens to become effective babysitters. The course will stress the following: developing professionalism, leadership and care giving skills, safety skills to prevent emergencies, managing real life problems, diapering, feeding and tips on finding babysitting jobs. Participants will receive a training manual, course CD, babysitting kit and first aid kit. Participants must bring a packed lunch. Ages 11–15 welcome.

Scorekeeping for Youth Softball and Baseball Teams


Do you want to become more active in your child’s softball or baseball teams? Are the coaches always searching for someone to keep score at the game? This presentation is for you. Learn the fundamentals of scorekeeping and help the team in this 90-minute interactive presentation. Some basic rules for each game will also be discussed.

UK Soccer Coaches’ Clinic


Comprehensive pre-season coaches’ clinic. Will teach a thorough program of how to direct children, lead children, keep their attention, and motivate them for a great season overall. Specialized drills and skill exercises will be reviewed. Great for all levels of coaching: new, years of experience, and shy to begin! Please wear comfortable athletic wear to participate in this hands-on class.

Credit Counseling and Credit Repair


When you need help, who to go to!
This seminar is all about credit counseling, credit repair and certain credit restoration companies. Know and understand the difference between each one and what to expect. Know what is expected of you as a customer and what the counselors can do for you!

The AARP Driver Safety Program


The AARP Driver Safety course is a classroom refresher especially designed to meet the needs of older drivers. It covers age-related physical changes, declining perceptual skills, rules of the road, local driving problems and license renewal requirements. This course is all class work; there are no tests. Another benefit is that anyone 55 and over taking this course may qualify for a minimum 5% discount on their auto insurance premiums. Anyone 50 or over may take this course, but only participants over 55 can qualify for the discount. Also, if you and your spouse are on the same policy, you both have to take this course in order to receive the insurance discount.

To the Dogs Hike


Explore the River Hills in a moderately difficult guided hike on the Mason-Dixon Trail. Our four-legged friends are welcome on this 6.5-mile round trip of the Mason-Dixon Trail. Please have your dogs on a leash. Proceeds from this hike benefit the SPCA of York County. Fee includes shuttle, guide, and a special donation to SPCA. Lock 2 Café will be open for trail snacks and lunch to be purchased if interested.

Wind Cave Exploration, Hike & Lunch


Did you know that the Lower Susquehanna is the site of a tectonic cave—a cavern formed by layers of shifting rock versus the typical limestone and water formation? Here’s your chance to take a guided tour of this unique cave located on the Conestoga Trail in Lancaster County. Your day will begin at Shank’s Mare with a shuttle to the trailhead. Hike in and explore the cave with our guides. Following your spelunking adventure, stop at the Lock 12 Historic Area and enjoy a delicious trailside lunch. Fee includes shuttle, guides and lunch.

Introduction to Geocaching


Learn about the sport of “geocaching” at Shank’s Mare. This high-tech scavenger hunt activity incorporates information from the web, with map and compass skills and a hand-held Global Positioning System (GPS) computer. “Team Shank’s Mare” has been enjoying this sport and we want to share the fun with you. This clinic will familiarize you with the principles of geocaching. We’ll head outdoors to practice finding some “caches.” Once you get the hang of this, go out on your own or join us for some of our “Geocaching Rendezvous” where you’ll form teams and navigate our own cache course followed by dinner in “The Rookery.” We’ll supply the materials for this clinic.
